Lake County forgives library card fines in exchange for donations
One Central Florida county will help residents save money on library fines during May.

From May 1 to May 31, the Lake County Library System will reinstate its annual Food for Fines initiative.

The library will forgive fines and overdue materials in exchange for donations.
These donations include dry food, canned food, hygiene products, baby products and packaged pet food.

Donations must not be opened, damaged or expired.
Sixteen Lake County libraries will accept donations, but the Umatilla Public Library will not accept pet food donations.
Each person can donate as many items as they want, and each item will be $1 toward library card fines.

The county said the donations would benefit local food banks and charities.
