Lake County deputies discovered a man’s body in a fire-damaged SUV Saturday morning near Mascotte.

Sheriff’s spokesman Fred Jones said the communications center fielded a call about 9:15 a.m. directing deputies to Honeycutt Road and Tuscanooga Road.

The caller told dispatchers a gas can was on fire next to the vehicle, a white SUV. The site is remote, located about four miles north of State Road 50.

Jones said the caller said she saw a man run away.

When firefighters and deputies arrived, they found a man’s body inside the vehicle. He was not identified by deputies.

Jones said detectives are investigating but provided no other details.

Mascotte is about 40 miles west of Orlando and about eight miles west of Clermont.
