Lake Forest’s Deer Path Inn is No. 1 among Travel + Leisure’s top 10 Midwest resorts

Remember how life was pre-COVID-19? So does Travel + Leisure Magazine. The publication known for its annual travel awards wrapped up its World’s Best Awards survey March 2, just before states started instituting stay-at-home orders.

The 25th edition polled readers from Nov. 4, 2019, to March 2, 2020, on things like rooms, facilities, food, treatments, service and overall value. The Deer Path Inn in Lake Forest came in at No. 1 on the list of best resort hotels in the Midwest.

The destination and its Tudor facade, rich wood paneling, and stag motifs also contributed to its ranking as the No. 2 resort in the United States. The property dates to 1860 and has an afternoon tea service that usually is available by reservation 2:30-3:30 p.m. on most days. With COVID-19, that service has been interrupted.

Grand Geneva Resort & Spa placed 10th on the Midwest list.

Situated on 1,300 acres in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa touts championship golf courses, family-friendly ski hills, an award-winning spa, and exceptional restaurants.

“We are honored to be acknowledged by Travel + Leisure readers as a best resort in the Midwest,” said Stephen Magnuson, Grand Geneva Resort & Spa managing director. “Grand Geneva Resort & Spa prides itself on offering the finest facilities, amenities and food offerings for our guests. We are excited to welcome guests back to experience all we have to offer.”
