BENTON HARBOR — Lake Michigan College’s department of visual and performing arts will hold auditions for “Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 24 and 25 at the Mendel Center, 2755 E. Napier Ave.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler from an adaptation by Christopher Bond, the 1979 musical tells the story of a murderous barber — Sweeney Todd — in 19th century London bent on revenge against the judge who convicted him of a crime he didn’t commit sentenced him to transport to a penal colony for life.

Todd takes up residence above a meat pie shop and begins supplying its owner with meat ground from his victims.

Bring a resume and a photo and prepare to sing 16-32 bars of a song from, or in the style of, the musical, and perform a short monologue from the audition packet.
