Lake Wynonah woman finishes in top 11 at Miss Pennsylvania pageant

Jun. 18—Schuylkill County resident Madelyn Rowan finished in the top 11 of the 2023 Miss Pennsylvania Scholarship Competition on Saturday in York County.

"She did fantastic," Melissa Rowan, her mother, said Sunday.

The 19-year-old woman from Lake Wynonah was one of 27 contestants. The winner — Miranda Moore, Miss Central Pennsylvania — will compete in the Miss America pageant.

For her accomplishments, Madelyn received the Frank Gillespie Lehigh Valley Community Foundation Award for $380, and she won $1,000 for finishing in the top 11 category.

On Thursday, she participated in the night one preliminary round, including a talent portion when she did an Irish step dance. She has 14 years of dancing experience and is a veteran of international competition with the Sabo School of Irish Dance, Orwigsburg.

Advancing to the night two preliminary round Friday, she had to answer questions, walk and participate in the gown portion of the event.

"She had the whole county behind her," Melissa Rowan said.

No stranger to competitions, Madelyn has participated in the Little Miss Schuylkill County Fair and the Greater Pottsville Winter Carnival.

In February, she won the title of Miss West Chester University, where she is majoring in international business and supply chain management.
