Lakeland Boating safety course set for Jan. 22-23

America’s Boating Club Lakeland, the Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron Inc., will present America’s Boating Course in two half-day sessions January 22-23.

The class teaches the basics of safe boating in eight hours of classroom instruction and fulfills the requirements for the Florida Boater ID Card. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1988, is required to have this card in order to operate a power boat of 10 or more horsepower in Florida. It may also fulfill the requirements in other states that require certification.

The class will be held at Old Salt Marine, 1918 U.S. 98 North, Lakeland. Check in will begin at 7:45 a.m. The class will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days. There will be a 60 question, closed-book, multiple-choice exam to complete the course at the end of Sunday’s class.

Pre-registration is required to provide adequate time to study the student manual and state laws. The registration fee is $50 per person. Family members willing to share the course materials may register for $10 for each additional registrant. Students who successfully complete course will receive the Florida Boater ID card. This certificate may qualify boat owners for a discount on their boater’s insurance.

To register or for more information, contact America’s Boating Club Lakeland at 863-667-9047 or Ronald James, Squadron Education Officer at 863-608-7783.
