The Lakeland Family YMCA has launched a capital campaign to raise money for an expansion of its facility at 3620 Cleveland Heights Blvd.

The total cost for the projected is estimated at $21 million, the city of Lakeland said in a news release. The release included new details on the previously announced expansion.

The project will include a new wellness complex with updated equipment and expanded facilities for group classes; a 40,000-square-foot, two-story field house with two basketball courts, one indoor turf field and an elevated indoor track; an expanded childcare building with improved outdoor space; and a 4,000-square-foot addition for child services.

Construction is scheduled to take place in phases over the next four years, the release said. It includes rehabilitation work for current YMCA buildings, with improvements to plumbing, air conditioning, flooring, lighting and roofs planned. The project also calls for an addition of 120 parking spaces.

Once permits are approved, phase one is scheduled to begin in September with the construction of a new, 150-space parking lot at an estimated cost of $2.1 million, the release said. Phase two, the main campus construction project, is tentatively set to begin March 2024, with an estimated cost of $13.3 million.

Phase three, the renovation of the main building, is scheduled for 2025 with an estimated cost of $3.4 million. The renovation to the current childcare building is set for 2024 at an estimated cost of $2.4 million.
