LAKELAND -- In anticipation that Hurricane Ian might disrupt Thursday night's high school football games, officials at both Lakeland and Lake Gibson have agreed to move the game to Monday night.

Lakeland athletic director Deron Collins confirmed the change Sunday. He said tickets for the game will be avaible on HomeTown Tickting, beginning Monday morning.

Collins said that neither team wanted to play two games in one week if the game couldn't be played Thursday. It's a district game, so it has to be made up.

Both Lakeland (3-0) and Lake Gibson (1-3) were off last week, which made it easy to schedule the game for Monday.

Lakeland is coming off off a 25-22 win over Kissimmee Osceola, while Lake Gibson is coming off a 51-0 loss to Lee County (Ga.).

Lake Gibson beat Lakeland twice last season, including 24-20 in the playoffs en route to reaching the state semifinals.

In the offseason, however, Lake Gibson graduated many top seniors, including Class 7A player of the year Jaylon Glover, then several players transfer to Lakeland, including top prospects Cormani McClain, Genorris Wilson and Brayshon Williams.
