LAKELAND — Lakeland will begin street resurfacing work on five major streets throughout the city this week.

Contractors will start a preventative maintenance schedule that involves milling down the asphalt roads to their base, then systematically paving the road. The city expects milling each street to take about two days, then the resurfacing process will take one to two days based on the length of the roadway.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternative routes during the the morning and evening commutes as delays are expected.

The roads scheduled to be resurfaced by early February area:

Restaurant inspections: In first week of year, no Polk restaurants are gigged for pests. But 8 require follow-ups

  • Cleveland Heights Boulevard, from Lake Hollingsworth Drive to Edgewood Drive, with milling starting Thursday. Paving is scheduled for Jan. 22 to 23.

  • Lake Hunter Drive, from Lincoln Avenue to Sikes Boulevard. Milling has already started. Paving is scheduled for Jan. 29.

  • West Main Street/Central Avenue, from Olive Street to George Jenkins Boulevard, will be milled Jan. 23 Paving is scheduled for Jan. 30.

  • Webster Avenue/7th Street, from 10th Street to North End, is slated to be milled down Jan. 24 to 25. Paving is scheduled for Jan. 31 to Feb. 1.

  • Rose Street, from Ingraham Avenue to Fern Road, will be milled Jan. 26 and 29. Paving is anticipated on Feb. 2 and 5.

During these repaving projects, there will be traffic control signs in place and flagmen deployed to assist motorists.
