Laker men notch 10th win of season

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Lake Superior State men's basketball team dropped Northwood 78-53 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) game Saturday at the Bud Cooper Gymnasium.

Eleven different players recorded points for the Lakers, who improved to 10-5 overall and 5-4 GLIAC. Kemon Bassett led LSSU with 14 points, Justin Fischer had 13 and Tyson Edmunson added 11.

The Lakers finished the game with a 52.6 shooting percentage, going 30-for-57 from the field.

LSSU led 35-23 at halftime. Northwood got within nine early in the second half at 40-31 with less than 16 minutes remaining. Later in the half, a 13-0 LSSU push ran its lead up to the biggest of the day at 71-42.

Kenneth Ganley Jr. scored 17 points for the Timberwolves (3-9 overall, 1-4 GLIAC).

The Lake Superior State women’s basketball team fell 74-46 against Northwood at the Cooper Gym Saturday.

Mattison Rayman scored 16 points and Makenzie Bray had 10 points for the Lakers (2-10 overall, 1-5 GLIAC).

Alana Nelson scored 18 points to pace Northwood (10-6 overall, 4-5 GLIAC).

Northwood finished with only two turnovers in the entire game, a new school record for fewest in a game. It was also the fewest turnovers in a game by any Division II team this season.

This upcoming week, the Laker women and men’s basketball teams are set to play a pair of GLIAC road games, at Wayne State Thursday and at Saginaw Valley State Saturday.
