Lakers’ Frank Vogel congratulates Carmelo Anthony for latest scoring milestone

During the Los Angeles Lakers’ win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, a milestone was reached by a longtime veteran,

Carmelo Anthony moved to No. 9 on the NBA’s all-time scoring list while dropping 28 points, passing Moses Malone.

He shot 10-of-15 overall and 6-of-8 from deep, so it was a fitting way for Anthony to ascend a spot.

After the game, head coach Frank Vogel congratulated Anthony for the accomplishment.

“He was outstanding tonight, and congrats to Melo. I mean, ninth all-time, that’s unbelievable,” Vogel said. “Carmelo Anthony was awesome tonight.”

Vogel continued about the effect the 37-year-old veteran has had on the squad.

“He didn’t crawl up to that milestone; he blew the doors off of it. I’m super happy for him,” Vogel said. “He’s been a great culture fit for our group and, obviously, really playing at a high level on the floor. He has a lot left in the tank, and he’s really going to help us this year.”

The moment L.A. signed Anthony in the summer, his role was clear: make shots. Anthony evolved into a 40% 3-point shooter during his two-year stint with the Portland Trail Blazers, and the Lakers desperately need that production after having a poor shooting team last year.

Anthony will not consistently hit 28 points every game, but if he can maintain a respectable clip from deep, there will be minutes for him.
