Lakers are interested in signing center Thomas Bryant

After getting agreements from free agents Damian Jones, Lonnie Walker IV, Troy Brown Jr. and Juan Toscano-Anderson, the Los Angeles Lakers are not done yet.

Other than a possible trade for a certain Brooklyn Nets star, they need more depth up front at both the power forward and center positions.

Jones is a solid get, as he can block shots, grab some rebounds, finish at the rim and perhaps even hit the occasional perimeter shot.

But one more serviceable center is needed, especially since Anthony Davis’ minutes at that spot need to be limited.

Reportedly, the Lakers are interested in signing free agent big man Thomas Bryant.

Bryant, 24, actually started his NBA career with the Lakers when they traded for him and Josh Hart by sending Tony Bradley, their first-round draft choice in 2017, to the Utah Jazz on draft day 2017.

It was a deft move, as Bradley has amounted to virtually nothing in five pro seasons.

However, after a very quiet rookie season, L.A. waived Bryant, and he has spent the last four years with the Washington Wizards, where he has blossomed.

Since leaving the Lakers, he has averaged 11.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocked shots in 21.6 minutes per game.

At 6-foot-10 and nearly 250 pounds, Bryant has legitimate size for an NBA center, and he can hold his own when it comes to rebounding, defense and rim protection.

Not only is he a strong finisher at the rim, but he can also stretch the floor, as he is a decent 3-point shooter.

Bryant is coming off a partially torn ACL he suffered early in the 2020-21 season. He returned this January and played in 27 contests this season for Washington, and although he played fairly well, his 3-point shooting took a significant hit.

If he is still the same player he was prior to his injury, Bryant would be a very strong pickup for the Purple and Gold.
