Lakers-Warriors recap: LeBron and AD go cold in 19-point collapse

It almost felt too good to be true for much of Monday night’s game for the Los Angeles Lakers as they built double-digit leads throughout the game, reaching as high as 19 points in the second half, with LeBron James having a rough offensive game. But eventually, a 6-16 night from LeBron James as well as another 6-16 night from Anthony Davis was not enough for the Lakers to hold off a scrappy Golden State Warriors squad, 115-113.

LeBron James had a shot at the end of regulation to win the game with a 3-pointer but it rimmed off. James and the Lakers also had an opportunity with 10 seconds left and the ball following a missed layup by Steph Curry, but they were unable to capitalize in transition and ran nearly eight seconds off the clock. While the Lakers missed big shots late, Curry made more of his on his way to 26 points.

Game MVP: Kelly Oubre Jr.

Oubre, because of his dreamy eyes and his poor shooting percentage, has been reduced to little more than a punchline so far in this season. Tonight Oubre was the focal point of the Warriors defensive gameplan, pestering LeBron James full court several times throughout the game and just generally bothering him for the entire game. On Monday night, Oubre played the perfect role of LeBron's foil on the defensive end and he even gave the Warriors offense. Oubre had a season-high 23 points on Monday.

Lakers back on the road to success

Following Monday night's loss, the Lakers are 11-4 with all four of the losses this season coming on their home floor. Perhaps, then, it's good news that the Lakers are starting a seven-game road trip that will have them playing Eastern Conference teams between Wednesday and Feb. 1. The Lakers look to move to 8-0 on the road on Wednesday against the two-time reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks.
