Lakes at Aylesworth, Merli-Sarnoski parks closed to swimmers due to high bacteria counts

Jul. 22—The lakes at Lackawanna County-owned Aylesworth and Merli-Sarnoski parks are closed to swimmers due to elevated bacteria counts in the water, an issue officials attribute to the recent stretch of bad weather.

The lake at Covington Park remains open, county spokesman Joe D'Arienzo wrote in an email, noting swimming at county lakes is at your own risk. Officials will notify the public when water readings at the Aylesworth and Merli-Sarnoski lakes return to normal.
