The combined levels for lakes Arrowhead and Kickapoo dropped over the past week after earlier rising above drought levels.

The combined level was 66.6 percent on Monday. That's down two-tenths of a percent from the previous week.

Although the lakes remain above the 65 percent the Stage 1 Drought Watch level, the city will maintain the watch status until the City Council votes to change it. That discussion is not on the council agenda for Tuesday's meeting.

North Texas has a chance for rain this week. The National Weather Service predicted a small chance of rain Monday night and greater chances on Thursday. NWS placed Wichita Falls and parts of the region at Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms Thursday.

The 5.17 inches of rain Wichita Falls has received so far in 2023 is above normal, but the area is recovering from a severe drought in 2022 that depleted lake levels.
