Lakewood man killed, four passengers hurt after car slams into brick wall in Howell

HOWELL - A Lakewood man was killed and his four passengers were injured Wednesday night in a one-car crash in Howell, police said.

Just after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, a Toyota Rav4 was traveling eastbound on Lanes Mill Road in the area of Lanes Pond Road, Howell Police said. While driving around a curve, the vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a concrete mailbox, causing the vehicle to lose control and rotate.

The Toyota then collided with a brick landscaping wall on a nearby property and overturned, according to police.

The driver, a 51-year-old Lakewood man whose identity is being withheld pending notification of his family, was trapped in the vehicle and fatally injured, Howell police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said two adult and two juvenile passengers were taken to a local hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

The incident is still under investigation and police are asking any witnesses to contact Ptl. Michael Silvani of the department's Traffic Safety Unit at 732-938-4575, ext. 2651.
