Lakewood police officer injured in crash near Ocean Medical Center in Brick

BRICK - A Lakewood police officer suffered a concussion and a fracture in an accident on Route 88 Thursday morning, a Lakewood official said.

Lakewood Mayor Raymond Coles said the officer was on duty when the accident occurred.

He had no further information on the collision and did not know the officer's name.

It's unclear whether anyone else was injured. Three vehicles were involved according to Asbury Park Press photos from the scene.

The Brick Police Department has not released details of the crash.

The officer "was treated and released and is home recovering," Coles said. An investigation into the accident is continuing, he said.

The accident happened sometime before 8 a.m. near the entrance to Ocean University Medical Center in Brick, between Fort and Edge streets.
