LaLa Anthony Narrates Black Pop Series on E!
LaLa Anthony will be the voice of a new two-night series about Black people’s massive impact on pop culture.
The series, called “Black Pop: Celebrating the Power of Black Culture,” will detail the stories behind some of the most memorable moments in Black culture.
Lala Anthony will narrate the series and Stephen Curry is the executive producer. E!, NBC News Studios, and Unanimous Media partnered to create Black Pop.
A Celebration of Black Culture
The series highlights the importance of Black America in shaping pop culture trends over the decades. It includes appearances from a packed roster of Black public figures across entertainment and culture. Viewers will hear from Tamar Braxton, Erika Alexander, Vivica A. Fox, Dominique Dawes, Laverne Cox, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
“We’re honored to have joined forces with E! and NBC News Studios to create Black Pop to honor and celebrate the power of Black culture in sports and entertainment,” said Erick Peyton and Stephen Curry in a press release detailing the series. “This special is a testament to the strength and impact of our community, and we’re grateful to all the voices who joined us in sharing their fondest memories and inspirations from years of Black excellence in pop culture history.”

A preview trailer for the special released on Thursday gives a quick hint at all of the Black culture the series will explore. The trailer includes teases of segments on Prince, Muhammad Ali, Soul Train, and Shaft.
“Black culture, it starts a trend and everybody else thinks it’s cool,” singer and actress H.E.R. says in the trailer.
Black Pop premieres on June 19. The first night explores Black music and TV and the second night, on June 20, explores Black sports and film.
The narrating role is just one of Anthony’s latest gigs. The busy actress and host celebrated the ending of the second season of the hit show BMF in March. Anthony plays Markisha Taylor on the show. Her role was expanded during the show’s second season.
