Lamborghini powers to best first-half ever

STORY: Lamborghini powered to a record first-half.

The luxury automaker said Tuesday (August 2) it shipped 5,090 of its sports cars and Urus sport utility vehicles - up almost 5% from last year.

Revenue was up close to a third at just over $1.3 billion, while profit jumped almost 70% to almost $435 million.

The company said the Urus SUV now makes up more than 60% of sales.

Lamborghini is also now driving into a period of transition for its product line.

The automaker said it would launch an all-electric model in 2028.

Its next step, though, will be to build a successor to its Aventador sports car, and updates to its Urus SUV lineup.

Lamborghini is not the only luxury company to see record sales this year.

Rival automakers, high-end fashion brands and more have also seen sales rise.

It comes as wealthy customers spend money saved up during the health crisis.

Lamborghini's Chief Executive Stephan Winkelmann warned, though, that a challenging winter could be ahead if Europe's energy crisis gets worse.

The carmaker is banking natural gas to keep up operations during the winter should Russia cut gas supplies to Western Europe.
