Lancaster County Prison reports death of inmate

(WHTM) — A Lancaster County inmate who was being housed at the State Correctional Institution in Camp Hill has died of natural causes, according to the Lancaster County Prison.

According to the Lancaster County Prison, 56-year-old Donald Hess was pronounced dead shortly before 11 a.m. on February 24, 2024, at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital.

He had been an inmate at the Lancaster County Prison but was moved to Camp Hill on February 13 to receive additional medical care.

Hess was first admitted to the Lancaster County Prison on June 18, 2023, on charges of resisting arrest, terroristic threats, and multiple probation violations. He had been sentenced to serve 23 months.

According to the prison, Hess’s family was present at the time of his passing, and the Cumberland County Coroner oversaw the report of his death.
