Lancaster fundraiser seeks money for Wounded Warrior Project

LANCASTER − An annual fundraiser in Lancaster is intended to raise money for Wounded Warrior Project.

Tribute To Our Heroes is a fundraiser hosted every year in Lancaster by Bob and Cathy Jumper. This event offers fun for everyone while also honoring one of our country's heroes and giving a chance for the community to give back.

"This is our eleventh year, would have been twelve but COVID-19 set us back a year," said Bob. "In eleven years, we have raised right about $60,000 dollars for Wounded Warrior Project."

This family-friendly event is open to the public with no cost for entry. Activities at Tribute To Our Heroes include a Chinese auction, a petting zoo, food trucks, vendors, a presentation of colors and 21-gun salute, and more.

"It's just a good time to come out and meet your neighbors, have fun, and pull the community together for a very worthwhile cause," said Bob.

At Tribute To Our Heroes, a different military veteran or first responder is honored every year. This year's honored guest is Chris Wickiser, a lieutenant with the Lancaster Fire Department and retired member of the United States Army. During his time with the Army, Wickiser served as a medic.

"He's being recognized for his dedication and service to the United States of America and our community," said Bob. "A real worthwhile man."

"He pretty much dedicated his life to defending this country and firefighting," said Bob.

At this event, Lancaster Mayor David Scheffler and Ohio State Senator Tim Schaffer will recognize Wickiser for his years of service with a proclamation.

Tribute To Our Heroes is from 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7, at Talmadge and Lewis avenues. All proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Project.

"As a veteran myself it's very important to me," said Bob. "These people put their lives on the line for us. They put their whole life on hold. They don't expect to be wounded, and if they are, they don't expect anything in return. Wounded Warrior Project helps them get through the tough times."
