LANCASTER — During the recent graduation practice at Lancaster High School, athletic director, Pam Bosser presented several awards to 2022 senior athletes for their achievements during their careers as Golden Gales.

Jonah Hoffmann-Weitsman (tennis), Sarah Mullins (tennis) and Rylee Patrick (field hockey, basketball and track and field) were named Ohio High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete award recipients.  The award recognizes the state’s top scholar-athletes who exemplify the commitment that the OHSAA has dedicated to academic excellence while participating in interscholastic athletics.

The Agonis Club of Columbus recognized Mia Hensley (swimming) and Andrew Rader (soccer) for their outstanding excellence in athletics, academics and community service.

The OHSAA awarded Caleb Sampson (football, wrestling and track & field) and Campbell Noland (volleyball) the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award. The award is given to athletes who have displayed exemplary sportsmanship while participating in interscholastic athletics.

The National Federation of High Schools recognized Sam Finck (football and basketball) and Rylee Patrick (field hockey, basketball and track and field) with the NFHS National Award of Excellence for their exemplary sportsmanship, ethics and integrity while participating in high school athletics, embodiment of good citizenship, moral character and sporting behavior and example of positive role model characteristics.

Owen McCandlish (cross country and Track and field) and Mia Hensley (swimming) were selected by the Columbus Dispatch as Encova/Dispatch Scholar-Athletes.

The Ohio Capital Conference named Eli Rathburn (football and Track and field) and Campbell Noland (volleyball) Lancaster High School OCC Scholar-Athletes.

The OHSAA Courageous Student Award is presented to a student-athlete who has overcome great adversity during their high school career while continuing to participate in interscholastic athletics.  This award was presented to Jaysen Justice (cross country and track and field).

The Lancaster High School Athletic Department awarded the Boys Student-Athlete of the Year award to Ajay Locke (football, wrestling and baseball) and the Girls Student-Athlete of the Year Award to Annabelle Farmer (field hockey and softball).  Locke and Farmer were nominated by members of the high school coaching staff. They declared the winners through a calculation of points earned by receiving league, district, regional and state awards and their academic excellence.

The Partners in Sport Scholarship ($1,000) was awarded to Locke (football, wrestling and baseball) and Jada Sharp (field hockey). Locke will attend Ohio Northern University in the fall where he plans to play in football, and Sharp will attend Wittenberg University and play field hockey.

The Partners in Sport Gold level partners are local businesses that partner with the Lancaster High School Athletic Department for advertising rights at athletic venues and donate generously to making this scholarship possible.
