Lancaster man killed in single-vehicle crash on County Road 33A

BERNE TOWNSHIP – The Lancaster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred at approximately 10:07 a.m. May 12, on County Road 33A, just northwest of Township Road 280 (Tarkiln Road).

Carl W. Crist, 57, of Lancaster, was operating a 2005, Ford Explorer Sport Trac, southeast on County Road 33A. Crist went off the left side of the roadway into the median and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle, then, went off the right side of the roadway and overturned down an embankment. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side against a tree, according to a news release.

Crist was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Fairfield Medical Center by Berne Township EMS. Crist was pronounced deceased by Fairfield Medical Center staff. Crist was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Lancaster Police Department, Berne Township Fire and EMS, and Fairfield County Engineer’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation.
