Land deal that could lead to a Pekin sports complex in preliminary stages
The city of Pekin’s proposed sale of city-owned property may be the first step in transforming undeveloped farmland into a sports facility with the potential to attract new businesses and out-of-town visitors.
The Pekin City Council voted earlier this month to sell 33 acres of land to Peoria-based developer Baldovin Construction LLC for $100, according to Pekin’s interim city manager, Bruce Marston.

The property is located between Brenkman Drive and Illinois Route 98 near the AMC movie theater.
“The sale of the land is contingent upon the development of a sports complex,” said Marston.
Baldovin Construction President Casey Baldovin presented his proposal for a sports complex that would include a hockey rink, basketball courts and a gymnasium at a November Pekin City Council meeting. He also mentioned the possibility of building a hotel, a coffee shop, and restaurant and apartments near the complex.
Marston said the project is still in the early planning stages, and there is currently no timeline for completion.
