Land Grab 30-by-30 Chisholm Trail and Great Western Trail meeting this Friday

Apr. 13—A informational meeting for the Land Grab 30-by-30 Chisholm Trail & Great Western Trail will take place at 7 p.m. on April 14 at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Center.

The public meeting will prompt discussion about the land along The Chisholm Trail & the Great Western Trail. Both trails have been identified as land to incorporate into the National Park Service's federal trail system.

According to a resolution signed by the Board of Stephens County Commissioners, in opposition, the "30 X 30" Land Preservation Goal, signed on Jan. 27, 2021, by President Joe Biden is an Executive Order 14008 titled "Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad."

In the April 10 commissioners meeting, Commissioner Russell Morgan clarified this still gives any citizen the right to be involved if they would like to be despite the county voicing their opposition.

According to the resolution, under the direction of President Biden, the preservation goal aims to "develop a program to conserve at least 30% of the lands and waters in the United States by 2030, which is called the 30-by-30 program."

The resolution continues to read that under the program there is around 700 million acres of land which would be set aside to be "permanently preserved" by 2030 and "preventing the productive use of these lands and their resources."

The land in question in Stephens County runs along the Chisholm Trail, and many have stakes of land there who would be affected.

CTHC is located at 2150 Chisholm Trail Parkway in Duncan.
