Lanes reopen after wrong-way accident shuts down southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive overnight

Lanes on southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive reopened early Tuesday morning after an accident due to a wrong-way driver injured three people, Chicago police said.

Lanes reopened shortly before 6 a.m., police said.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, a driver in a Honda sedan was traveling in the wrong direction in the 3000 block of South DuSable Lakeshore Drive when a Ford Expedition struck the Honda.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he was listed in fair condition. The driver of the Honda and a passenger were taken in critical condition to UChicago Medicine.

The Major Accidents Unit was investigating.
