Lansing airport renews international flights for warm weather destinations

DEWITT TWP. — The Capital Region International Airport is expecting to keep three nonstop seasonal international routes in early 2024.

The international flights will go to Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The flights were renewed, and it will be the 14th year for those style of flights out of Lansing, said Katherine Japinga, the airport's marketing director.

She said the seasonal flights are not guaranteed to be renewed every year, and the renewals are a mark of success with passengers continuing to demand flights to warmer spots in the winter months.

The flights will be booked through ALG Vacations and its brands Apple Vacations, Funjet Vacations, Travel Impressions and BeachBound Vacations. The flights will be operated by Avelo Airlines on Boeing 737 planes.

The airline began non-stop flights to Orlando International Airport in 2022, and a plan to add another Florida flight, Lansing-Ft. Myers, was shelved after a hurricane hit Ft. Myers last year.

The Cancun flights will start Jan. 27 and run on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The Punta Cana flights start the next day with Sundays and Thursdays. The Montego Bay flight starts Feb. 2. The flights all run through early April 2024.
