Lansing General Motors strike averted with tentative agreement between GM, subsidiary employees

LANSING — A General Motors Co. Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant strike has been averted after the company and United Auto Workers reached a tentative agreement.

GM Spokesperson Dan Flores said in an email the agreement for GM Subsystems Manufacturing LLC employees was reached shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, the deadline for the strike.

“The UAW will now focus on the ratification process,” he said. “We won’t be discussing details of the tentative agreement until the ratification process is complete.”

GM subsidiary employees at four Michigan plants, including Lansing Grand River Assembly that's represented by Local 652, were set to strike.

The other plants included Flint Assembly, Factory ZERO, and Orion Assembly, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Subsystem employees work for GM but are represented by a different contract that represents assembly line workers and skilled trades employees. If these employees had walked off the job the impact would have been felt within hours, according to the Detroit Free Press report.
