Pookky Khammanivong, whose mother owns Rock 'n' Thai, will split his time between the family restaurant and his "new adventure" — where his sister, Anna, will serve as manager.

"My wife and I wanted to have our own restaurant," Khammanivong told The Sentinel in March. "We decided to take over the old building and have our own adventure. We'll still be helping out at Rock 'n' Thai. We're just venturing out."

Boba Q serves specialty bubble teas and smoothies; finger-foods like rib tips, grilled chicken and wings; and Laotian favorites like sticky rice and papaya salad — plus Korean street tacos.

"These are the foods that, when we were young, we served at parties with our friends and family," Khammanivong said. "We want to share that with the community."
