Lara Spencer is back on the air at Good Morning America, but it’s been a different experience as of late.

After ringing in the new year, the ABC personality sparked concern amongst fans when she appeared on TV with a boot on her right foot. While the injury hasn’t stopped her from reporting the latest hard-hitting news, many folks are wondering what happened to Lara to land her in the medical shoe to begin with.

Fast forward, viewers may now have a better idea about her injury and recovery process, thanks to her documenting it on social media.

What happened to Lara Spencer?

On January 3, Lara stunned her followers when she shared a series of pictures with her walking boot and knee scooter on Instagram. The broadcast journalist went on to reveal that she had had a procedure done to address a chronic foot condition that’s plagued her health.

“Not the boot I was hoping for this Christmas!!! BUT I did get some shiny new wheels (swipe to see my sexy scooter!!),” she wrote on January 3. “A torn plantar plate and ligament in my foot that’s been slowly getting worse and worse FINALLY fixed by the magnificent Dr O’Malley at HSS today.”

She continued: “Didn’t want to miss my daughter’s last soccer season or the holidays, so here we are! Rollin’ into 2023 like.......well, I’m not exactly sure but it should be interesting at work!!!!! 🛴🛴🛴🛴🛵🛵🛵 😆❤️🛴😆😀😃😀❤️❤️❤️🛴🛴🛴🛴🛴🛵🛵🛵🛵😆.”

Long associated with severe pain in the ball of one’s foot, torn plantar plates can be misdiagnosed as temporary pain due to bunions or other issues but often becomes increasingly worse over months and years of activity, according to materials published by the Cleveland Clinic.

Fans quickly came to Lara’s support, sharing their well wishes in the comments. “Oh man!! You are strong and on the mend! 🙏💜,” one person wrote. “Sending good healing vibes to you. Try not to get a speeding ticket on that shiny new scooter you have there! Lol! Take care!” a different user added. “Sending healing thoughts and not to speed on your scooter. Healing Love ❤️ 💕🌹🌹☘️☘️,” another follower noted.

What’s more, a week later, she disclosed how she started on recovery with a picture from her first day of physical therapy. As it turns out, she already has a sport in mind to play when she’s all better. “Tennis 🎾 I’m comin for ya,” she captioned the post on January 10. “Thank you @performanceoptimalhealth. Let’s get this rehab started!”

But Lara isn’t just letting her fans know about her foot injury on social media. She opened up about what work has been like amid her health struggles, including some of the challenges she’s unexpectedly faced along the way. “The boot is heavy,” she disclosed. “I tried to lean forward to get my scripts and, well, I don’t want to say what almost happened.”

If there’s one thing she’s taking in stride though, it’s the fact that she now has a new helper for the next month or so—her scooter, or “Dolly,” as she affectionately calls it. She’s even posed alongside her fellow coanchors.

We’re wishing you a speedy recovery, Lara!
