The long-gestating Power spinoff centering on Larenz Tate’s character is officially dead at Starz.

Starz’s president of programming, Kathryn Busby, has confirmed to Variety that the political Power spinoff will not go forward. The proposed series, which was set to be called Power Book V: Influence, would have starred Tate as his character Rashad Tate as he rises in the ranks of politics.

The writing has been on the wall for some time.

For one, Influence was set to come before Power Book IV: Force and was the initial fourth series in the franchise. However, Force developed faster and was fast-tracked. Secondly, Tate’s character was introduced on Power Book II: Ghost and the actor is now a series regular.

His storyline included an unsuccessful run for New York governor, leading him to try even harder for political power while weighing what it could cost him. It’s expected that the spinoff would have followed more of Rashad’s ups and downs regarding his political aspirations.

However, another 'Power' spinoff seems to be in the works.

According to Deadline a London-based spinoff of the series is in development.

While she didn’t confirm or deny this report, Busby did tell Deadline, “I am not at liberty to answer anything in that vein except to say what we love about Power is the potential to spinoff and to spinoff successfully which we have done. Which in theory, we would love to do again. I love that you’re hearing it.”

Thursday, the network did renew 'Power Book III: Raising Kanan' for season 3.

Currently, the Power franchise includes Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan and Power Book IV: Force.
