Large Brush Fire in Maui Prompts Evacuations and Flight Diversions

A large brush fire in Central Maui, Hawaii, on Thursday, July 11, prompted evacuations in the areas of Kihei and Maalaea, according to local media.

Shelters were opened for the evacuees.

Footage on social media showed the sky darkened by dense smoke and aerial videos showed the scale of the blaze.

Maui News reported that by Thursday evening the fire had consumed more than 1,000 acres and was being fuelled by high winds.
