Large portion of Rusk now under a boil notice

Oct. 18—RUSK — A boil notice has been issued for much of Rusk, according to a release by the City.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has instructed the City of Rusk to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

Water for drinking, cooking and for the making of ice should be boiled and cooled prior to use to ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes.

Residents should make sure water is brought to a vigorous, rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. As an alternative to boiling, bottled water may be purchased and used or water can be obtained from another suitable source.

The boil notice applies to all water customers from McDonalds south to 343 along Highway 69 and includes streets that intersect Highway 69 on both sides of the road, according to the media bulletin.

Officials state that if a home or business lost water pressure Wednesday morning, the boil notice pertains to them. Conversely, accounts that did not lose water pressure Wednesday morning do not need to boil their water.

The Rusk Water Department will notify everyone those in the boil zone when it is no longer necessary to boil their water.
