Large snakes, opossum recovered from New Orleans during Mardi Gras

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Agents with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered three snakes and an opossum from New Orleans streets during Mardi Gras season.

According to a social media post, agents removed a 14.5-foot reticulated python, a 3-foot ball python and a 3-foot Burmese python.

The post states the LDWF worked with the Louisiana State Police, the New Orleans Police Department, the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal and biologists to safely remove the snakes and the opossum.

The animals were allegedly illegally possessed.

On Feb. 6, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry took to social media platform X to announce the confiscation of a large snake from the French Quarter.
