Large Waterspout Comes Ashore in North Carolina as Hurricane Ian Approaches

A huge waterspout off the coast of Newport, North Carolina, was seen hurling debris after it came ashore on September 30, as the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado watch for the area that day.

Video recorded by Loretta Burton shows a large waterspout whirling over water before landing ashore and carrying debris in the process.

“It came onto land very near our home and continued across the neighborhood,” Burton told Storyful. “Thankfully no damage known or injuries were associated with it.”
