Local Giant Eagle sold biggest Ohio lottery prize ever

CLEVELAND (WJW) – What are the chances of winning millions, or even billions, of dollars while playing the lottery? Pretty slim, but lucky winners across the country have beaten those odds.

Casivoo, a Canada-based tech and iGaming company founded in 2023, compiled a list of the largest lottery prizes won in every state.

According to the study, the largest lottery prize in Ohio was a $375 million Mega Millions jackpot back in 2019. Ohio Lottery confirmed this to FOX 8.

Ohio Lottery says that prize was claimed in trust by “The Great Hope Trust” trustee Brian C. Mulhall. The trust chose the cash option of about $182 million after state and federal taxes.

The winning ticket was sold at the Giant Eagle on Tyler Boulevard in Mentor. The grocery store also received a $100,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
