US talk show host Larry King has spoken for the first time following the deaths of two of his children, who died just weeks apart.

Reports emerged last week that King’s only daughter Chaia, 51, had died on 20 August following a battle with lung cancer.

Just “a couple of weeks” prior, King’s son Andy, 65, also reportedly died, with no cause of death being given at the time.

On Saturday evening (22 August), the presenter and journalist broke his silence with a Facebook post thanking fans for their support.

“It is with sadness and a father’s broken heart that I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy King, and Chaia King,” King wrote. “Both of them were good and kind souls and they will be greatly missed.”

The TV personality, 86, confirmed that his son had died of a heart attack on 28 July, while Chaia’s death had followed a recent lung cancer diagnosis.

“Losing them feels so out of order,” King wrote “No parent should have to bury a child.

“My family and I thank you for your outpouring of kind sentiments and well wishes. In this moment, we need a little time and privacy to heal. I thank you for respecting that.”

King has three other children, Larry King Jr, Cannon and Chance.
