Jul. 12—Former Colorado Rockies outfielder Larry Walker announced Sunday on Twitter that he tested positive for COVID-19 and wouldn't be attending Major League Baseball's All-Star weekend events in Denver.

Walker, elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2020 in his 10th and final year of eligibility, was scheduled to play in the Celebrity Softball Game on Sunday afternoon at Coors Field.

"Sorry Denver!!!," Walker tweeted Sunday night. "I was very much looking forward to attending festivities over the next few days. Even had an awesome little surprise Tuesday ... But unfortunately I have been bitten by the big ugly animal called Covid 19!!!"

Walker said in his tweet that he'll be back at Coors Field when his No. 33 is retired by the Rockies on Sept. 25.

Walker was scheduled to be inducted into the Hall of Fame last year, but the pandemic forced the cancellation of the ceremony.

He and the rest of the class of 2020 will be inducted during a ceremony in Cooperstown, New York, on Sept. 8.

Walker played with Colorado from 1995 to 2004, earning four of his five all-star appearances during his time with the team. He was named the 1997 National League MVP. Walker started his career with the Montreal Expos and finished it with the St. Louis Cardinals.
