Las Cruces Public Schools to select new superintendent July 1

A new district leader for Las Cruces Public Schools will be chosen Saturday, July 1, at a meeting open to the public.

A little over a week ago, the district announced three candidates were narrowed for the position: Debra Elder, Monica Mesa and Ignacio Ruíz.

Elder is the current interim superintendent of Los Lunas Schools. Mesa is the assistant superintendent of East Elementary Schools for Mesa Public Schools in Mesa, Arizona. Ruíz is an assistant superintendent for Clark County School District in Nevada.

LCPS Board of Education will convene at 9 a.m. starting with an approval of the agenda and prior executive sessions before moving into a closed session to select the new superintendent. After a selection is made, the board will reconvene in an open session to approve the superintendent’s contract and terms.

The meeting will take place in the boardroom at the Dr. Karen Trujillo Administration Complex, located at 505 South Main St., Suite 249. Those who cannot attend the meeting in person can watch via live broadcast.
