Las Vegas-area prosecutor faces federal charge after sex sting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A former Clark County prosecutor accused of attempting to meet an underage girl at a park for sex now faces a federal charge connected to his arrest last year, the 8 News Now Investigators confirmed Tuesday.

Henderson police arrested Tanner Castro in October after they said he tried to meet a person he believed was a young girl at Whitney Mesa Park. Instead, he was communicating with a decoy as part of a law enforcement sting.

“The user later agreed to meet the decoy for sexual contact at a predetermined meeting location,” police wrote in an arrest report the 8 News Now Investigators obtained shortly after Castro’s arrest. “The sexual contact included having sex in the backseat of the subject’s car.”

On Tuesday, a federal grand jury indicted Castro on one count of coercion and enticement. The indictment requires Castro to forfeit his iPhone. The court issued a warrant for Castro’s arrest Tuesday afternoon, records said.

Castro faces two felony charges in Henderson Justice Court, including luring a child with the use of a computer to engage in sexual conduct and statutory sexual seduction, records said. His next court date was scheduled for Feb. 12.

Castro posted a $15,000 bond in his Henderson case in October. It was unclear Tuesday when he could appear in federal court.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office hired Castro as a deputy district attorney in September. The office fired him after his arrest.
