LAS VEGAS – A new attraction coming to The Strip will have tourists dangling their feet over the Grand Canyon, Lake Tahoe and other landmarks of the American West.

But this is no helicopter tour. In fact, you don't even leave Las Vegas Boulevard.

It's called FlyOver Las Vegas, and it's being billed as an “immersive flight-ride experience.” What that means for Las Vegas visitors is buckling in and watching a film on a spherical screen.

Located next to the Hard Rock Cafe on Las Vegas Boulevard, FlyOver's two flight-ride theaters will open with a full-service bar in September.

With a Strip-facing entrance, ticketed visitors sit down, strap on seatbelts and roll into the center of a 52-foot wrap-around screen. The ride is designed to make you feel like you're gliding in a helicopter over destinations like the Grand Canyon, Zion and Arches National Parks, Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas.

The ride is similar to Disneyland Resort's Soarin' Over California attraction. There are mists and scents and motion effects that make riders feel like they're flying.

“It’s so much more than a helicopter ride," said Lisa Adams, vice president of FlyOver Attractions, in an interview. "It’s a story about a country and its people."

Expected to open on the Las Vegas Strip in fall 2021, FlyOver will have Las Vegas visitors have tourists dangling their feet over the Grand Canyon without leaving Las Vegas Boulevard.

It took 14 months and more than 100 hours in the air with an actual helicopter to gather all the video footage for FlyOver, she said.

This will be the first FlyOver attraction to open in the U.S. –– and the third in the world. FlyOver is also located in Vancouver, Canada and Reykjavik, Iceland.

Ticket prices will be released this summer.
