Las Vegas police arrest man in deadly hit-and-run involving repainted truck

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash where someone altered the suspect vehicle’s color, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned.

Anthony Lopez-Meza was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges including reckless driving resulting in death and destroying or concealing evidence, records said.

Lopez-Meza was granted an own recognizance walkthrough, meaning while he was technically arrested, his photo was taken and he was released without having to post bail. During a hearing Tuesday, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Joe Bonaventure ordered Lopez-Meza to stay out of trouble ahead of an April preliminary hearing.

It was unclear Wednesday what led police to Lopez-Meza, though the warrant for his arrest was issued on Feb. 3, several days after the crash on Jan. 28.

Two days after the crash, Metro police tweeted a photo of the truck they said was involved in the crash, noting someone had painted it yellow.

“You thought by changing the color of the vehicle we wouldn’t find you?!” the post on X stated before it was later removed.

Lopez-Meza is accused of striking and killing a 34-year-old man who was in a crosswalk. Police said the driver was fleeing another crash when he hit the pedestrian at Lake Mead Boulevard and Tonopah Drive.

A booking photo was not immediately available.
