Las Vegas police: Man points gun at driver, child in road rage incident

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas man faces several charges of assault and child abuse after police said he pointed a gun at a father and son during a road rage-related incident, documents show.

On Sunday, Feb. 18 at around 1 p.m., officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department were called to a supermarket near Charleston and Lamb boulevards.

When officers arrived, they found a man who said he was driving west on Charleston approaching Lamb with his 13-year-old son. The man told police he put on his turn single to change lanes, according to an arrest report.

The victim told police he saw a dark gray pickup truck traveling in the lane next to him and he believed he had “plenty” of room to switch lanes without cutting the other driver off, the report stated.

After he moved lanes, the pickup truck swerved around him and switched back into the lane in front of him. The victim then flashed his high beams at the pickup.

When they came to a red light at the intersection, the man in the pickup truck exited his vehicle and pointed a gun at the victim and his son while yelling at them, according to the report.

The victim told police he feared for the safety of his son and thought the man was going to shoot them, but was “frozen with fear,” the report stated. The suspect then got back into his truck and drove to a supermarket parking lot.

The victim followed the suspect to the parking lot and called 911 when the suspect went into the supermarket.

A records check of the pickup’s license plate showed it was registered to Wilson Barrera-Secaida. Officers also saw paperwork sitting in the front seat of the pickup with Barrera-Secaida’s name on it, according to the report.

Surveillance video from the supermarket showed Barrera-Secaida purchasing several items before leaving the store, spotting patrol officers around his vehicle, and walking out of the parking lot.

Police went to the address listed for Barrera-Secaida and found his son, who initially said Barrera-Secaida was refusing to leave, the report stated. Officers were later able to convince him to leave and arrested him.

Barrera-Secaida’s son told police that his father entered the home “unexpectedly and in a hurry,” according to the report. He said Barrera-Secaida started “to consume narcotics and alcohol” before police arrived.

Barrera-Secaida faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse, neglect, or endangerment. His next court date is scheduled for March 6.
