Las Vegas police: Sex worker helped men rob tourists at gunpoint

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two men robbed and threatened to kill a group of Las Vegas tourists after a sex worker met the men at a nightclub and followed them home, documents said.

Las Vegas Metro police arrested Janel Jeffers, 23, on Feb. 18 on charges of robbery, conspiracy kidnapping and kidnapping, records said.

On Nov. 25, a tourist called police saying a group of people had robbed him and a group of friends inside their rental unit. The address of the rental was not included in court documents.

The group of four, who primarily spoke Spanish, said they were at a Las Vegas Strip nightclub when they met a woman, later identified as Jeffers. A person in the group swapped phone numbers with Jeffers and she ended up coming over to their rental afterward, documents said.

About 20 minutes after Jeffers arrived, two men came in, held the group at gunpoint and stole their personal belongings, including thousands of dollars in cash. The men and Jeffers then left together, police said.

In interviews with police, the victims said the men pointed guns at them and locked them in a room with Jeffers “[appearing] to know” the men, documents said. They added before the men arrived, “Jeffers was acting strange and began to exit and enter the home’s bathroom multiple times.”

Police said Jeffers was “actively working” as a sex worker on the day of the robbery. Last week, officers arranged to meet Jeffers through an online post at a Las Vegas Strip casino.

Jeffers told police “she was working” as a sex worker that night and that she left with the two robbers because “she was scared,” documents said. She never reported the robbery or alleged kidnapping.

Police did not release any photos or identifiable information about the two men.

Jeffers remained in jail on $100,000 bail as of Tuesday. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for March 6.
