Last-minute holiday grocery shopping? Here's what time Utica stores close on Christmas Eve

The holidays are here, and if you need to do some last-minute holiday grocery shopping for a big Christmas dinner, keep in mind some stores might be closed or have adjusted hours throughout the season.

If a store is open, that means staff members are working and not spending the holidays at home, so bring some extra appreciation and patience with you.

Most Utica-area grocery stores are closed on Christmas Day. Here's what time you'll need to get to each of them before they close up for the holiday on Christmas Eve — and a few backup options if you run out of time:

Chanatry's holiday hours

Chanatry's Hometown Market at 485 French Road in Utica is closed Christmas Day, but will be open for regular hours on Christmas Eve and New Year's Day, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Besides groceries and basic items, Chanatry's carries a big selection of local foods, including chicken riggie sauce, tomato pie, half-moon cookies as well as an extensive meat counter.

Bargain Grocery's holiday hours

Bargain Grocery, located at 1110 Lincoln Ave., will be closed Christmas Day as it's normally closed on Sundays but will open from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Christmas Eve.

The store also will be open until 3 p.m. New Year's Eve.

Their regular business hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Owned by the nonprofit Compassion Coalition, Bargain Grocery sells food and other items at low prices, sometimes even below wholesale.

Price Chopper's holiday hours

Price Chopper and Market 32 stores in the Utica/Rome area will close at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 and will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 26 for normal hours. This includes all store pharmacies.

The store will also close at 10 p.m. on New Year's Eve and will open its doors again for regular operating hours at 6 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1.

Hannaford's holiday hours

Hannaford stores will open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. Doors will reopen from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26. Its pharmacy will be open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and closed Sunday, Dec. 25.

On New Year's Eve, Hannaford will also open at 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. The pharmacy will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1.

Regular business hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and closed on Sundays.

Aldi's holiday hours

All Aldi stores will close Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Hours for Christmas Eve are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. New Year's Eve. Hours may vary by location, so make sure to go to stores.aldi.us for information on specific stores.

Walmart's holiday hours

All Walmart locations will close at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve and be closed Christmas Day. Stores will be open during normal hours from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. in most stores on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS holiday hours

Walgreens stores in the Utica area will open during normal hours on Christmas Eve and will open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Day. As far as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, stores will be open during normal hours. Pharmacy holiday hours will vary by location. You can find additional information at walgreens.com.

Most Rite Aid stores will be open Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. While the Rite Aid store at 1924 Genesee St. in Utica will close on Christmas Day, others may be open depending on location. Check with your store in advance or go to riteaid.com.

The CVS store located at Sangertown mall in New Hartford will open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and will close Christmas Day. New Year's Eve and New Year's Day the New Hartford store will open during its regular weekend hours (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) Clinton's CVS location will open normal hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and will close on Christmas Day.
