Last Moving Picture Company to auction off movie history Oct. 2

Sep. 27—The Last Moving Picture Company in Kirtland offers posters, photographs and more from more than a century of film history, and on Oct. 2, some of that history will be available to bidders through a local auction house.

The 400 lots of stills and 400 lots of posters that will be auctioned are only some of the 2.5 million stills and 200,000 posters that business owner Morris Everett Jr. houses at his store, located at 10535 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland, just north of the intersection with Chardon Road (Route 6). Everett said that he also runs a Last Moving Picture Company store on eBay.

Everett described himself as a buyer-seller, or someone who both collects and sells an item. He started the Last Moving Picture Company in Downtown Cleveland in 1987 and moved to Kirtland in the early 2000s.

"We love movie posters and movie photos," he said, noting that the company also has photographs for opera, television, radio and theater.

In 2019, Everett bought the space next to his poster store and moved his collection of movie stills there from the New York City area.

His interest in movie posters and stills has afforded him the opportunity to travel and meet movie stars. He said that he has organized movie poster conventions and auctions in locations such as Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago, New York City, Los Angeles and London. He has run auctions for individuals such as Martin Scorsese, Dustin Hoffman and Sharon Stone and crossed paths with people including Michael Jackson and Joe Pesci.

"I've been to a number of places on my hunt," he said. "I make an effort to know people in different parts of the world who deal in movie posters."

He said that the oldest poster in his collection is a French poster from 1896. He noted that he does not have as many posters for movies from the past 10 years.

In addition to his store, Everett also owns The Everett Collection, which leases digital images to clients including books, magazines and television. According to Everett, the company also acts as an agent for around 10 million photographs that are owned by colleges, museums and private photographers.

Everett said that the Oct. 2 auction will include 400 lots of stills and 400 lots of posters. Interested bidders can participate in the auction virtually by going to the website for Premier Auction Galleries, pag4u.com, and clicking the link for the company's online catalog. Individuals who wish to see the available items before the auction can visit the website, call Everett at 216-598-2468 or visit Premier Auction Galleries at 12587 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township.

According to an announcement provided by the company, this will be the 30th annual Hollywood Poster Auction. It will be hosted by auctioneer Jesse Matthews.
