The Last of Us has found its Abby Anderson.

Deadline reports that Dopesick actress Kaitlyn Dever has been added to the Last of Us season 2 cast as Abby, who is one of the main characters of 2020 game The Last of Us Part II. Dever will star alongside the returning Pedro Pascal as Joel, and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

Abby was portrayed by Laura Bailey in the video game and is a skilled soldier that Ellie and girlfriend Dina must track down after she enacts some brutal vengeance.

Speaking to Deadline, The Last of Us showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann said of Dever's casting: "Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material.

"Nothing matters more than talent, and we're thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella and the rest of our family."

Meanwhile, fans of the first season will be hoping that the show's breakout characters Bill and Frank, played by Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett, will return for The Last of Us season two in some capacity, despite meeting a tragic end in the previous season's finale.

Speaking about a potential return after winning an Emmy for his portrayal of Bill, Offerman said: "It certainly has been pitched. I think we pitched a whole mini-series of a prequel of their lives before they met each other. It could be a musical. We're not short on ideas.

"We'll just we'll see what Craig [Mazin] and Neil [Druckmann] come up with."

Offerman went on to add that he'd reprise the role in a heartbeat, saying he feels "lucky" to have won the role of Bill.

"I was lucky this time. They needed a guy who could use a shovel," he joked. "Three of us in Hollywood, Harrison Ford passed and Jane Lynch was not available."

The Last of Us airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK.
