Latest big-name business to join Birkdale Village is The Cheesecake Factory. What we know

A second Charlotte-area Cheesecake Factory restaurant is set to open next month in the Lake Norman area.

The Cheesecake Factory will debut Aug. 8 at the mixed-use development Birkdale Village at 8701 Townley Road in Huntersville, the company said Tuesday. The California-based upscale casual restaurant chain known for its cheesecakes also has a SouthPark location at SouthPark mall, 4400 Sharon Road.

The 9,500-square-foot Huntersville restaurant, in a former Gap spot near The Kilted Buffalo sports pub and Barnes & Noble, is among 17 openings expected this year at Birkdale.

Birkdale Village has been undergoing a major redevelopment that includes business expansions, relocations and remodels by North American Properties and Nuveen Real Estate.

The Cheesecake Factory features more than 250 menu items and more than 30 cheesecakes.

The Huntersville store has hired nearly 300 full- and part-time employees. The site includes indoor and outdoor dining space.

The Cheesecake Factory Inc. operates 321 restaurants in the U.S. and Canada under brands including The Cheesecake Factory, North Italia and its Fox Restaurant Concepts business. The Cheesecake Factory also has restaurants in Greensboro, Raleigh, Durham and Greenville, S.C.

About Birkdale Village

Birkdale Village is a 250,000-square-foot retail center with an outdoor stage, greenspace and retail kiosks that were part of a $20 million renovation turning Birkdale Village into an outdoor entertainment destination.

A mix of national and regional apparel stores also plan to open at Birkdale Village, including Apple, Southern Tide, based in Greenville, S.C.; Monkee’s, based in Winston-Salem; Anthropologie, based in Philadelphia; Evereve, based in Minnesota; and Lilly Pulitzer, based in Pennsylvania.

Other retailers and restaurants open or opening at Birkdale Village include Brixx, Brown BagSeafood Co., Foxcroft Wine Co., The Good Wurst Co. and Warby Parker eyeglass retailer.

Birkdale Village opened in 2003 and has 60 stores and restaurants, 320 apartments and 50,000 square feet of office space.
