What is closed in Sioux Falls, surrounding areas due to snow

The ongoing snowfall is causing closures in Sioux Falls and surrounding areas. The city is expected to receive between 9-11 inches of snow through Friday evening, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, which issued a winter storm warning for the area.

As of 3 p.m., the NWS in Sioux Falls said the city has seen a new snow accumulation of about 5 inches.

Here are the latest closures announced:

School closures

Nearly all Sioux Falls area schools canceled class Friday.

Road closures

As of 3 p.m., no road closures had been reported. However, the Sioux Falls Police Department is recommending people only travel if necessary as road conditions are expected to get worse.

Minnehaha County

Minnehaha County offices will be closing at 2 p.m. Friday because of the weather conditions, officials told the Argus Leader. The Minnehaha County Courthouse will close at 3 p.m..

The Minnehaha County 24/7 Sobriety Program session from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday will be canceled, according to the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office.

The 24/7 program will resume testing at 6 a.m. Saturday.

Lincoln County

The Lincoln County Courthouse will be closing at noon Friday due to weather conditions, according to the county website. The 24/7 program at Lincoln County will also be closed.

Both the courthouse and 24/7 program will resume normal operations at 8 a.m. Monday.
