Wichita County voters will have few contested races in the 2024 elections

While 2024 might become a tumultuous election year for the White House and Congress, only a few contested local races will show up on the ballot in Wichita County.

Dobie Kosub faces no primary or general election opponent for 89th District Court Judge. Kosub is currently First Assistant District Attorney. He would replace Judge Charles Barnard, who is retiring at the end of the current term.

Last minute filings show that Pct. 3 Commissioner Barry Mahler has opponents in his re-election bid. Former Wichita Falls City Councilor DeAndra Chenault has filed to run as a Democrat. Iowa Park resident Bradley Wynn filed to run for the post in the Republican primary.

Mark Beauchamp, Pct. 1, will continue to serve on the county’s governing panel.

Others who appear to continue in office without opposition were David Duke, Sheriff; Tommy Smyth, Tax Assessor-Collector; James Hughes, JP Pct. 1, Pl. 1; Mike Little, Constable Pct. 1; Jared Burchett, Constable Pct. 2; David Blackerby, Constable Pct. 3; James Gowan, Constable Pct. 4.

Burchett and Gowan are also employed as assistant fire marshals by the city of Wichita Falls.

The Texas 30th District state senate seat, which includes Wichita Falls and part of eastern Wichita County, will have a three-person race in the March 5 Republican primary.

Candidates are Cody Clark of Krugerville, a business operator and former Denton police officer; Carrie De Moor, a Frisco emergency room doctor; and Brent Hagenbuch, a Denton businessman.

The seat became open when incumbent Drew Springer announced he would not run for re-election.

The larger part of Wichita County is in the 28th District, represented in the state senate by Charles Perry of Lubbock. He is not up for re-election in 2024.

Republican James Frank faces no opposition in the primary, but will face Wichitan Walter Coppage in the general election to remain in the State Representative Dist. 69 seat.

Republican Ronny Jackson of Amarillo faces no primary or general election opposition for another term as Congressman of the state’s sprawling 13th District.
